One thing most of the participants at the just concluded Africa Rice Congress 2010 never imagined was the police escorts that clear way for the official buses for the conference; from the beginning of the event till the last day.
Most excitingly was the display by the escort that conveyed business to Hotel Kapeski also known as Al Farouk in the evening of the Prime Minister’s cocktail by the swimming pool side; standing atop the bike and commanding traffic with both hands while the bike continues to roll. This attracted some applause from excited participants.
Though much was not there to talk about, but that the Malian government ensured that the conference went on well with police escorts leading participants to and fro was one memory that would take time to erase in the minds of most of the participants.
However, another interest aspect of the cocktail was a man slipped onto the pool and to the chagrin of participants, he could not swim – a challenge to African man!
